Animal preservation has become a subject of oning scientific research and an issue of concern among the public – from professional environmentalists to ordinary individuals. Therefore, it is advocated that killing animals for food or exploiting animals to produce warm clothing and medicine is not acceptable any more. As for me, the statement is a bit arbitrary to some extent.
It is admitted that, thanks to science and technology advancements, alternatives such as technology and veganism have contributed to the decreasing number of animals killed for manufacture and food. The breakthrough in technics enables humans to rely less on animal products. For example, fur that was used to make clothing or small carpets can be replaced by artificial fabrics. Similarly, an increasing number of vegetarians do reduce the demand for nutrition from meat to some extent. To be specific, proteins now can also be gained through vegetables or the process of combining basic chemical elements.
However, it does not necessarily mean that animals are completely not demanded in people’s daily life. In terms of nutrition or diet, animals such as chickens and fish still have been identified as sources of food and energy for a long history. In addition, medical treatments and medical research such as vaccines depend on animal experiments to test the safety and effectiveness before applying to or injecting into patients. Due to the specific physical structures, some animals are indispensible to scientists.
In conclusion, despite the availability of some alternatives, human beings still continue dependency on particular animals in many areas, ranging from daily life to medical research. |
